Happy Owner Seeing their Average Online Order Grow by Working Their Modifiers by DALL E3

While researching a different topic for a blog post, I unearthed a “modifier secret” that’s shown to yield up to a remarkable 30% increase in your restaurant’s online ordering sales without needing a single new customer.

And no, this isn’t the typical advice that’s been rehashed time and again. If you’re eager to amplify your earnings with a strategy that’s right under your nose, dive into the full blog post to uncover this game-changing revelation. 💡🍽️

Have you heard about AI, specifically ChatGPT?

If you have discounted it as not a valuable tool or not thinking it is worth $20/month for ChatGPT 4.0 access…

You will love what you read in part one of our 5-part blog post on how to use AI, specifically ChatGPT 3.5 and 4.0 to dramatically increase your restaurant sales.

1. Menu Modifiers & Add-Ons:

Upselling and cross-selling are crucial strategies. Offering premium add-ons, sides, or complementary items can significantly boost the average order value (AOV). For instance, if someone orders a burrito, don’t just offer them extra sour cream as a modifier; offer them a slightly discounted price to “make it a combo” and include a drink, salsa, and chips, or simply offer salsa and chips at full price.

The percentages will let you know with some simple data analysis if its worth a discount or not.

Bundling items at a slightly discounted rate (compared to buying them separately) can also encourage higher spending.

How can we use AI or ChatGPT to help create online ordering modifiers to maximize sales?

Well, first we could just try giving ChatGPT the entire menu and asking it to give us a list of suggested modifiers to maximize sales for each item.

I will show you a reasonably simple prompt.

Next, I will show you the difference between ChatGPT 3.5 which is free, and ChatGPT 4.0 which costs $20 or so per month.

Here is my reasonably simple prompt I am using Ay Chihuahua restaurant in Surrey, BC, Canada, as an example. Once I have completed this post and we have tracked the results of the changes we implement, we will present the results in another blog post.

Simple ChatGPT Prompt Chat GPT 3.5

Please analyze the following menu and give me a list of modifiers I should attach to each menu item to maximize ordering efficiency. Then I want you to add a few more suggestions that will increase my restaurant’s online ordering sales as additional modifiers. You should end up with a minimum of 3 suggested modifiers with a price for each menu item. You can look at all other menu items and sides in order to come up with the best suggestions to use modifiers to upsell and increase order $ value when customers are online ordering. Please order this list from the menu item that once modifiers are added would generate the most additional sales to the least:

You can see from the comparisons with the simple prompt for Chat GPT 3.5 you can get back an incredible number of useful suggestions. Remember, with Chat GPT 3.5, you really must be very careful as it can make things up, sometimes this is good, sometimes it could hurt.

Chat GPT 4.0 took things to a new level with the same prompt but showed signs of laziness trying to offload a bunch of work for you.

Chat GPT 4.0 + Human Professional prompting yielded a lot more ideas and comprehensive responses you could just action.

The key is to always be on the lookout for things that are just crazy. But, even if they sound crazy, if they can’t hurt you, its worth trying them to see if it was you that was crazy vs. ChatGPT.

Not everything ChatGPT gives you will be correct. You must keep your wits about you as it can overwhelm you with content and ideas.

We will report back on what our client agrees to implement, we will try to get it all agreed to for a test, and report back in a future blog post.

Good use of AI when it comes to ChatGPT is to always think, ChatGPT + Human = Actionable content and ideas.
